Will Visual C++ 6 ever be supported?
Unlikely. Visual C++ 6 has severe problems when it comes to C++ templates and I don't feel like including work-arounds for outdated compilers. If you really want to use VC++ I suggest you get an update to VC++ 7.1. The free Visual C++ Toolkit 2003 can be downloaded
here and it can compile PeLib.
